When my husband and I purchased a foreclosed home, we had to learn how to get rid of mold in our house. Upon inspection black mold was discovered in the house due to some water damage over a period of time.
The inspectors found black mold on an outer wall in the downstairs bedroom in our house. Evidently the window in that room had leaked, creating water damage and through the house being shut up for such a long period of time mold grew and had to be removed. How we had to get rid of the mold was to totally remove the inner wall to the studs and then treat the studs with a bleach and water mixture.
Killing the mold was not good enough. In order to handle the mold remediation we had to make sure not only that the mold was killed but totally removed. This meant after treating the studs then the mold had to be scraped from the surface until all visual black mold was gone.
Once the black mold was gone from the house we had to have the mold inspectors once again come in and take a sample of the previously molded area to make sure all the black mold was gone. Then the testing was sent to the lab to ensure that there were no trases left behind. Our mold testing was successful.
Now we are left with how to get rid of the mold and mildew in the rest of the house. We were able to remove the toxic black mold, thank goodness, but the other mold can cause other issues.

How to get rid of mold and mildew was created when we bought our foreclosed home. The home had been closed up for a very long time and mold and mildew was visible upon our inspections and the inspections done by our bank. We had to find out how to get rid of mold before we could occupy the home because some of the mold was obviously black mold.
This has been a learning experience and thankfully we did not have to hire professionals to do it all. But some of the work did require we hire outside sources.
